Were you aware of the fact that Norway rats are the largest of the commensal rat species? Usually, they are the only kind of rat you’d be able to find in Chicago. Also called alley rats, river rats, or city rats, Norway rats are found in the temperate zones of the earth and can be seen everywhere you go in Chicago. Their length is often between 7 to 9 inches, and their weight ranges from 7 to 18 ounces. The most noticeable of their physical features are the small eyes and ears, coupled with a round nose which gives them an exceptional sense of smell. However, their vision is not as impressive. They excel in swimming, climbing, and running. Their aptitude in these areas is what makes providing Rodent Control Services a difficult job.
Adult Norway rats do not live longer than a year, often reaching sexual maturity within the first two months of their conception. Due to their impressive breeding capabilities, they are able to produce almost 100 offspring within a single lifetime. Norway rats can be fully nourished if they consume 0.75 to 1 ounce of food and 0.5 to 1 ounce of water in a day.
